I remember back in the very early 80’s walking into school with my first D A, the woodwork teacher mr Richard’s was an old teddyboy himself, telling me who he used to listen to and the bands he saw, billy fury, eddie cochran, Marty Wilde just to name a few, we became good friends, id bring him in records id bought an he’d do the same for me, you couldn’t do that now as he’d be labelled as a groomer, but there was nothing like that goin on he was still into his rocknroll, following monday i turned up in full ted suit for a bet, got called out in assembly in front of the whole fifth form, headmaster called me up on the school stage, there i stood full black drape ,velvet collars , black drainpipes black crepes with leopard print on the bridge of the shoes, gold with black paisley waist coat,black maverick tie with white shirt, I looked the dogs bollocks, BUT!! Batman ( the head teacher) we used to call him because he was old school and wore the cape the they used wear back then, he was a proper bastard ,any after lecturing me infront of god knows how many kids he sent me home to get changed, looking across the hall I saw my woodwork teacher smiling an gave me the thumbs up😂😂😂, as I was being led away out of the hall I could hear, “cool as fuck” plus many other voices of admiration , I really didn’t give a toss, one thing kids are missing out on today as they’re scared of getting “cancelled” or singled out, kids are missing the tribes we had back then, your mods,your punks, your skinheads, then there was us ,The teds or rockabillies,you belonged to a group or a clan if you like. Today just look around and all the kids are dressed exactly the same , all wearing what ever name is in fashion , and that shit they listen to, that auto tune music,, it’s fucking awful..

This is such a great historical clip! The Teddy boys are just teenage lads out for a 'Giggle and a laugh'! All credit to them! It is the vicar who has an antiquated attitude! It is he that is the creature of the darkness! Only a small minority of the original teddy boys would have been involved in any violence. These lads are very respectful and polite! Would you find that amongst the gangs that commit the drug dealings and stabbings amongst themselves in London today? I don't think so!

Ted's inspired the punk look,I was a punk and loved teddy boy music,the Ted's and the punks had a few issues but at the end of the day think it came down to mutual respect for each other,the clash,sex pistols,damned were all influenced by Elvis,Jerry Lewis etc.

the punks were ok in the 50s, ok they didnt dress like the teds but they still looked cool jeans and a leather jacket and wedges and a cosh and then comes along a load of tramps in the very late 70s and call them selves punks big joke
